Arthur M. Luxenberg

New York, NY

Arthur M. Luxenberg co-founded Weitz & Luxenberg, the largest mass-tort and personal injury litigation plaintiff’s powerhouse in New York City 30 years ago and grew it into one of the 400 largest law firms in the U.S. Under his direction, attorneys have won more than $17 billion in the form of verdicts and settlements for clients. Of that amount, $8.5 billion is for clients exposed to asbestos. Mr. Luxenberg was named as the Best Lawyers 2013 mass tort litigation Lawyer of the Year in NYC. He has represented passengers on the cruise ship Achille Lauro following its hijacking by terrorists off the coast of Egypt, served as liaison counsel for the asbestos and silicone breast implant litigations, and was a member of the DES Steering Committee for the State of New York.

Mr. Luxenberg supervises attorneys who were responsible, in part, for settlements for the $9 billion Actos drug, $2.5 billion DePuy and $1 billion Stryker hip implants, and $423 million for water pollution caused by methyl tertiary butyl ether. He also led the firm to jury verdicts of $190 million the largest for a consolidated asbestos case in N.Y. history, and $75 million jury for a client with mesothelioma (the largest single case verdict ever for W&L).

Members of his team serve in leadership roles on many current and former MDLs including those for Opioids, Roundup, Dicamba, Proton-Pump Inhibitors, Farxiga, Invokana, Ethicon Hernia Mesh, and Cook IVC Filters.
