Michael Alder is recognized as one of the top trial attorneys in California, having recovered over $3.1 billion in verdicts and settlements. As the owner and Senior Trial Attorney at AlderLaw, a leading Los Angeles firm representing plaintiffs in personal injury and employment litigation, he is a fierce advocate for underdog clients and a generous supporter of fellow attorneys, charitable causes, and community programs.

Mr. Alder is personally involved in every case his firm takes on and is known for consistently achieving record-breaking settlements and verdicts. Notable wins include the $60 million verdict in City of Modesto v. Dow Chemical. He and his team have earned praise from the press and the legal community alike.

With over 29 years in litigation, Mr. Alder has received numerous honors. He was the youngest ever recipient of CAALA’s Trial Lawyer of the Year in 2004 and received the California State Bar Clay Award for Personal Injury in 2014. He’s been named one of the Daily Journal’s Top 100 Lawyers in California and a “Top 100 Southern California Super Lawyer” for 13 consecutive years. He’s also a longtime member of the American Board of Trial Advocates (ABOTA), where he currently serves on the Executive Committee.

A respected speaker and published author on trial strategy, Mr. Alder actively supports fellow trial attorneys by maintaining a 9,000-deposition database and expert witness directory—resources he shares at no cost. He mentors young lawyers, provides free access to his archives, offers financial assistance through the AlderLaw Warrior Fund, and hosts free seminars and networking events.

Mr. Alder strongly believes in giving back. He is a founding member and past president of the Los Angeles Trial Lawyers Charities (LATLC), which supports underserved communities across Southern California. He also helped found the American Museum of Tort Law and serves on the Board of Trustees for the Inner City Law Center (ICLC), a pro bono law firm dedicated to ending homelessness and advocating for veterans’ benefits. In 2020, he was honored with ICLC’s “Katherine Krause” award for his pro bono work. That same year, he joined the boards of the National Hispanic Media Coalition and Metro Los Angeles YMCA.

In response to the COVID-19 pandemic, Mr. Alder and his wife and law partner Gina Zapanta founded Z.A. gives, a nonprofit addressing food and education insecurity. Funded by their law firms, Z.A. gives has donated over $150,000 and fed more than 25,000 people through direct giving.

In his spare time, Michael enjoys traveling to his family’s ranch in Louisiana, collecting knives, working out, caring for his chickens and goats, and entertaining friends. He has a teenage daughter and son, is a bonus dad to Gina’s two daughters, and two baby boys.
